Intellectual Property Rights National E-Workshop
Workshop
Aiming to promote awareness about Intellectual Property Rights and to encourage innovation across various disciples, a one day National E-Workshop has been conducted by Entrepreneurship & Career Hub (ECH), University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in collaboration with Jaipur National University, Jaipur on the topic Intellectual Property Rights on April 30, 2021. Dr. IndraniJadhav, Faculty, JNU, Jaipur opened the session by welcoming the esteemed panelists and the participants and acquainted the audience with the workshop. The Panel included:
· Shri R. Saha, Senior Advisor (CII), Former Scientist G (DST, Govt. of India), Former Director (Patent Facilitating Centre, TIFAC, Govt. of India),
· Prof. S.K. Soni, Professor of Microbiology, Former Director, Centre for Industry Institute Partnership Programme (CIIPP), Panjab University, Chandigarh,
· Dr. BrajeshBarse, Research Scientist, Manager, DBT-ICGEB Centre for Advanced Bioenergy Research (ICGEB), New Delhi
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. H.N. Verma, Vice Chancellor, Jaipur National University, Jaipur emphasized on the importance of IPR and its protection. He also introduced the Entrepreneurship & Career Hub, University of Rajasthan to the audience.
Dr. VidyaPatni, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, Coordinator, Entrepreneurship & Career Hub, University of Rajasthan, addressed the audience. Dr. Patni spoke about the limited awareness about IPR in academics and apprised the audience with the functioning of ECH, which aims to create and strengthen the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. She also discussed various facilities offered by ECH, which include instrumentation, infrastructure facilities, expert mentorship, a huge industry network and funding opportunities to the start-ups all over Rajasthan.
ShriR.Saha, Senior Advisor (CII), Former Scientist G (DST, Govt. of India), Former Director (Patent Facilitating Centre, TIFAC, Govt. of India) highlighted the importance of Intellectual Property for sustainable businesses and trends. He also mentioned the difference between IP and innovation. He stated, “Mere rearrangement of things is not patentable”. In order to file patents, the idea has to be inventive. He introduced the audience to the pillars of patentability and focused on the importance of innovations focusing on a particular problem and also focused on material transfer agreements.
Prof. S.K. Soni, Professor of Microbiology, Former Director, Centre for Industry Institute Partnership Programme (CIIPP), Panjab University, Chandigarh depicted a clear picture of scenario of IP development in India and displayed the list of top 20 institutions based on patents granted during the period of 2010-2016 to boost the number of patents filed and granted in India in the various fields. He gave an insight of patent filing and its analysis.
Dr. BrajeshBarse, Research Scientist, Manager, DBT-ICGEB Centre for Advanced Bioenergy Research (ICGEB), New Delhi raised the issue of environmental degradation, climate change and its impact on human health. He focused on identification of such problems and their environment- friendly solution by replacement of fuels with biofuels, which focuses on innovative thinking and its implementation. He also discussed the IPR policies and various career opportunities in the field of IPR in Legal IPR and Backend IPR Support.
The workshop ended with concluding remarks by Prof.H.N. Verma, where he thanked all the panelists and ECH for the successful conduct of the National E-workshop.
